Biography

Dr. T.S.Ganesan completed his MBBS and MD in Internal medicine and went on to train in Medical Oncology at St. Bartholomews Hospital, London. He then obtained his PhD from the University of London. He was subsequently appointed as Consultant Medical Oncologist at Churchill Hospital, Oxford and established a laboratory as a Clinical Scientist at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford. He was the first Clinician scientist in Medical Oncology and was awarded a 5 year program grant by ICRF that was renewed for 15 years. He was also a Reader in Medical Oncology at Oxford University. After 15 years at Oxford he was appointed as Chairman, Cancer Institute and Institute of Molecular Medicine and Professor of Medical Oncology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin, India towards the end of 2005. He established the Institute of Molecular Medicine and strengthened the Cancer Institute at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. Subsequently, he moved to Cancer Institute, Chennai in June 2012 and holds the chair in Medical Oncology and is head of Clinical Research. His research interests have been on cancer genetics and signal transduction, in addition to clinical trials. He has contributed to performing early phase trials by gene therapy, antibodies and vaccines in addition to novel drugs in cancer. He has been awarded the Clinical Excellence award in UK during his tenure there. He has been a member of the Medical Research Council, UKCCR and NICE advisory committees. In India, he has been a member of the DBT, DST and ICMR advisory committees. He has supervised over 25 doctoral students and post doctoral fellows. He has over 150 papers to his credit in international journals. He has published over 300 abstracts at scientific conferences.
